As reported last week Thunder have been unable to use their normal venue for home games, with Worthing Leisure Centre unavailable.

They have found an alternative - the newly built sports hall at Durrington High School - but they asked for help raising £2,500 to ensure the hall is up to the standard required for their level.

A fundraising page - www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/worthing-thunder -was set up. And noe Thunder have announced th target has already been met.

The club said: “Worthing Thunder fans, supporters around the league and ex-players ... we want to say a massive thank you to every single one of you for all the support, messages and comments we have had from you We have now hit the target for the backboards/rims and protective flooring.

“We really do appreciate every single one of you, we can’t wait to be back playing in front of you all - we will continue to keep you updated with when this can happen again. Thank you so much.”

The new sports hall at Durrington High is ideal, and a timely new facility, for Thunder. But closer inspection of what was planned revealed the backboards and rims were not the correct ones for men’s basketball division one games. The rims need to be sprung and the backboards need to be perspex glass – and the funds now raised mean they can be installed.
