Oak grab last-gasp winner

KEIRON HOWARD grabbed all three points for Mile Oak Football Club on Wednesday with a last-minute winner against Seaford.

Howard rifled home from six yards in the 89th minutes for his seventh goal of the season.

Tony Burnett, from Danny Curd's pass, had given Oak a 21st-minute lead with his 19th goal of the season.

The advantage lasted for just three minutes, though, as Ben Dartnall beat the offside trap to level.

Curd from Wayne Whittington's long ball forward restored Oak's lead on 26 minutes but within a minute Tom Callaghan equalised again.

Burnett and Curd both went close to giving Oak the lead in the remainder of the first half, before Oak dominated the second period and Howard got the late winner.

Oak had a makeshift defensive line with captain Steve Porter, Chris Paine, Nathan Loughlin, Ryan Sargent, Lee Howard and Jason Fleming all unavailable.

Midfielder Wayne Whittington was partnered at the back by Reserves defender Gary French, with Joe Whiting, who was man of the match, and Darryl Livesey the full-backs.

Paul Eaton, who rejoined Oak from Wealden earlier in the week, came off the bench for his latest Oak debut.

Oak manager Anthony Whittington said: "It was a good win.

"It took a little bit of time for our defence to get used to each other, and that probably contributed to both their goals.

"But after that, they held things together really well."
