Brian Nicholls sent in this photo of the Lancing Primary School football team from 1958, hoping that readers could name the teammates he has forgotten.

Ricky Cannons, who is second from left on the back row, emailed in to name the boy on the far left of the back row as Michael Shackleton.

Ricky also identified the boy second from left on the back row as John Hazleden, and confirmed Roger Dearling as the boy on the far right of the front row.

Ricky said: “We went through the season unbeaten and, if my memory serves me, with no goals against. We had a very good team.”

Peter McCallum, of Franklin Road, Worthing, named the remaining boy, on the far left of the front row, as Chris Hatton.

Peter said: “I was in the same year and myself and a few other school friends were ‘useful’ at football, but could not break into such a talented team.

“I, therefore, watched home matches on a Saturday morning.

“Most moved up to Irene Avenue Secondary School, before moving into the new Boundstone School.

“I kept in touch with Brian Doherty and Buster Brown to the mid 1970s.

“Buster was a strong, powerful player but Brian was the most talented.

“Sadly he collapsed and died suddenly, while playing football, in 1974/75.

“Going through the team, Ricky Cannon’s dad was involved with Lancing FC for many years.

“Brian Nicholls worked at Beechams for many years, as I also did.

“I am struggling to remember who the teacher was who ran the team. Was it a Mr Finch?”
