After losing at home to bottom-of-the-table Newham Neptunes in their previous game, Thunder responded well to record their sixth win in seven games and climb a place to sixth in the table.

In a highly physical battle, Worthing remained professional and turned in perhaps their most complete team performance of the season. The whole team contributed as they gradually pulled away from Westminster to continue their good record at Capital City Academy, where they have now won on their last four visits.

Louis Allen led Thunder with 33 points, which included eight three-pointers, as the Southampton-native showcased his deadly accuracy once again. Milton Chavis added 21 points, with the returning Tomas Seduikis scoring 13.

Thunder coach Daniel Hildreth said: “It was a great bounce back performance after the loss last week, a total team performance and everyone contributed.

“I don’t often call out individuals but when a player hits eight three-pointers, Louis does deserve some recognition, but the outstanding defence and rebounding of Selby (Hind Wills) was key as well.

“I’m really proud of the whole team, though, and look forward to playing in front of our fantastic fans next week.”

Worthing started out strong and ended the first quarter 19-15 ahead. They then stretched their cushion to 45-34 at half-time.

Westminster hit back in the third period to narrow Thunder’s lead to 62-59. But Worthing stood up to the challenge in the final ten minutes and secured the win as the hosts showed fatigue.

It was the third time Thunder had beaten Westminster this season, after two wins at home earlier in the season – 88-77 in the league and a 92-89 victory in the National Trophy.

Thunder host Leicester Warriors on Saturday, with a 7.30pm tip-off at Worthing Leisure Centre.

Worthing lost by just a point, 75-74, in the previous league meeting between the sides this season.
