Local runners descend on the capital for London Marathon

THERE were a number of local runners who tackled the London Marathon on Sunday and recorded some excellent times in the capital.

More than 36,000 runners took to the streets of London for the gruelling 26.2-mile course through the city’s busy streets.

With the sun shining, competitors were treated to warm conditions as around half a million spectators packed the course route.

The first Worthing Harrier home was Kevin West, who finished comfortably under the three-hour mark in 2hrs 56mins 28sec.

Elizabeth Fairs came home in 3-47-18, Sharla Elder in 4-24-01 and Louise Fairs completed her first marathon, despite feeling unwell, in 5-43-02.

Steve Fryer led the Worthing Striders home in another sub-three hour time of 2-57-47.

Janice Jones finished in 3-28-56, Karen and Alistair Wakfield both finished in 3-53-07 and Sue Harmstone-Essex came home in 5-15-46.
