Lauren reaches two finals in latest event
LAUREN JONES continued her comeback from injury be reaching two finals at the Open BNP Paribas Handisport de Cagnes sur Mer tournament in France.
After winning the women’s singles title at April’s Sheffield Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, in her first competition in 14 months, she won the women’s doubles in France and was runner-up in the women’s singles.
Jones, 19, partnered Canada’s Mika Ishikawa to claim the women’s doubles at the ITF Futures Series event, after two straight sets victories.
Jones and Ishikawa beat top seeds Busra Un of Turkey and Annabelle Ribeaud of Switzerland 6-3, 6-3 in the semi-finals and went on to defeat Swedish second seeds Sanna Klindt and Rebecka Bellander 7-5, 6-0 in the final.
Britain’s former world number one ranked junior, also a former world number 25, made her return from injury in April in Sheffield, where she beat Un in the women’s singles final.
Jones won her opening singles match in France against third seed Ishikawa 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 and went on to defeat top seed Un in the semi-finals, 6-4, 6-3.
She also took second seed Bellander to three sets in the final, but the Swedish player prevailed 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
After earning ranking points in the stipulated two tournaments since her comeback, Jones is now set to make her return to the women’s singles world rankings.
