Jones, who recently turned 18, reached the quarter-finals of the doubles event and the second round of the singles competition.

Jones, who has been ranked number one junior girl in the world, has recently moved up into women’s competition and achieved the targets she set for herself heading into the competition.

She said: “I was aiming for the quarter-finals in the doubles and to get beyond the first round in the singles.

“It was the first time I’d played with Francisca Mardones, who is number 12 in the world, in the doubles and we went out to the Wimbledon champions.

“And I got through the first round in the singles but then got knocked out by the world number two.”

While in Nottingham, Jones received the 2012 National Wheelchair Tennis Association awards for most improved female player – for the second year running – and was also named junior player of the year. She was also awarded the Aegon wheelchair sports player-of-the-month award for May after she helped GB win the Junior World Team Cup that month.

Jones also recently got some advice from Judy Murray – the mother of Wimbledon champion, Andy., at a coaching session.

She is now aiming for a place on the Great Britain team in next year’s World Championships.

Currently ranked 28 in the world for singles and number four in Great Britain, Jones said: “It looks like there are three places available for GB women for next year.

“The top two are the bronze medallists from London 2012, so there’s a couple of us going for the third spot.

“That’s all I’m aiming for at the moment, although longer term I’m looking at the Paralympics in Rio in 2016, which is what all my focus will be on. I’ll just work hard and see what happens.”

Jones’ next tournament is the Italian Open in September.
