KENNETT SMASHES STEYNING INTO FINAL

TAILENDER David Kennett was Steyning's unlikely batting hero in their nail-biting one-wicket victory against Littlehampton in Sunday's Sussex League Cup semi-final at the Sportsfield.

Kennett, whose previous highest score for the first team was a modest 10 not out, struck an unbeaten 58 as Steyning dramatically snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with two balls to spare.

Skipper Jeremy Green was full of praise for Kennett whose innings earned Steyning their place in the final against Preston Nomads at Horsham on August 29. He said: "David hasn't had much chance to prove himself in the previous rounds but to bat like he did in such circumstances shows he has a lot of ticker."
