Begley is one of 24 of the country’s best young volleyball players who will represent England in the first round of the CEV Volleyball European under-20 and under-19 Championships, which will be held on January 7-10.

The men’s team will travel to Poland to face Kosovo and Belarus, with the women off to Georgia to play Belarus and Georgia.

With many athletes already working on the road to Tokyo 2020, this competition will play a crucial role in the players’ development.

Audrey Cooper, technical and talent director for Volleyball England said: “Both teams are busy preparing for the competition weekend which is a great opportunity for our teams to benchmark ourselves against the best in Europe.

“Two years ago, the men’s team made it through to the second round, so we’d be delighted if both squads were able to match that achievement again.

“There are some incredibly talented athletes in our junior squads and together with exceptional coaching staff who have come on board, it’s a genuinely exciting time for the future of our sport.”
