Homefield Park bowler is named woman bowler of the year

An amazing year for bowls star Amy Truran was duly recognised last month when she was named the Taylor Bowls woman bowler of the year at the Bowls England annual dinner held in Leicester.

The former St Francis bowler moved to Worthing club Homefield Park in a bid to improve her game and it could hardly have worked out better as she toppled some of the biggest names in the women’s game to win the women’s national four-bowl singles championship at Royal Leamington Spa this year.

That included a quarter-final win against 2012 World Championship player Sian Gordon and victory in the final against 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Amy Gowshall.

Truran also reached the quarter-finals of the national two-bowl singles championship and the last eight of the national fours championship with her Homefield Park team.

Truran, who was born in the Philippines, moved to Hong Kong with husband Mike and it was there she tried her hand at bowls.

However, it was only when the pair moved to Sussex that she really started to make a name for herself in the sport.

Tony Allcock MBE, Bowls England chief executive, said: “Amy had an exceptional season and I am delighted that her efforts have been recognised.”
