Hills wins British Rally Cross crown in debut season

RACING driver Aiden Hills went off like a rocket in his debut season in the MSA British Junior Rally Cross season, so it is no surprise he admitted he was over the moon to be crowned champion.

It is a dream come true for Hills, whose 1.3 litre Suzuki Swift has helped him lift the title by winning five of the six rounds of the championship, which started back in March.

He finished third in the first race of the series at Kent’s Lydden Hill track, but since then accelerated his way to the top of the pile and stayed there throughout the season – which has seen him travel all across the country and to both Ireland and Scotland.

It was a comprehensive victory for the 15-year-old from Findon, as he finished top of the group, 27 points clear of his nearest rival

Hills admitted he had already exceeded his expectations after his first win at Blyton Park, Lincolnshire, back in May, so to be crowned champion has come as quite a shock, especially as all the competitors race the same cars to prove the driver’s credentials.

He said: “At the beginning of the season, I was just happy and aiming to get one win so to come out with five and be champion, well, I am over the moon.

“It sounds like an easy season on paper, but it was far from it. Every round I had someone right on my bumper throughout the race.

“My real highlight, though, was that first win. That was the aim of the whole season, to get one win, so when that came it was such a relief, then when the second came I couldn’t believe it and things have gone from there.”

It was all fairly comprehensive going into the final round of the season as the young speeder needed to only finish the race to put the crown beyond the reach of second- placed Ryan Weston.
