Forward Cambronne starred for Thunder this season and was named the club’s MVP, as voted for by supporters, after they beat Leicester Warriors 85-75 in their final game of the season on Saturday.

Hildreth believes that Cambronne is the best player in the National League and said: “Discussions have already taken place with James and they will continue. “I know he’s thoroughly enjoyed his time here – he loves the club, loves the fans and he’s very comfortable here. For me, he’s the best player in the league, so of course I want him back.

“We’ll do everything we can off-court to make that happen but it’s got to be right for James as well. I want the best for my club and my team, while he’s got to do what’s best for him.

“I believe another year here would be fantastic for him but that’s something we’ll discuss in future weeks.”

Cambronne top-scored with 28 points in Thunder’s win over Leicester.
