Hepworth competes in regional event

After qualifying for the ten events, Hepworth decided to compete in six events which included 50 and 100 metre freestyle, 50 and 100 metres backstroke, 100 metre individual medley and the 50 metres butterfly.

The event has no age limit so anyone under the age of 16 is free to enter any chosen event and with Hepworth still only 14 she is one of the younger competitiors.

Hepworth’s best performance came in the 50 metres, when she finished in a time of 28 minutes 57 seconds and took a 37th placed finish in the junior section of the competition.

She also took 37th spot in the 100 metre freestyle.

Hepworth has also qualified for the South Region Zonal Championships, which are to be held at the London Aquatics Centre, Stratford, in late January.

The Worthing youngster now has automatic qualifying times in two events and consideration times in three events for this long course competition.
