Rivers, a 6ft 7in forward, first played for Thunder in the 2006-07 season and then returned in November, 2011. He missed last season owing to work commitments but will be in Thunder’s squad for Saturday’s friendly with the USA Select team.

Thunder coach Daniel Hildreth said: “The return of Hank is going to be an easy transition for the team.

“Last year, Hank took a season out to pursue his business and, unfortunately for us, it did not allow him to commit to Thunder.

“Now things are settled, he has decided to return to the game and I’m glad that the fans will get to see a familiar face.

“I have always said that continuity from one year to the next is vital for success. At times, this can’t be helped and you will always make slight improvements where possible.

“In his last year, Hank averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds. He knows our offensive sets and most of the guys, so team cohesion will be stronger from the start.

“Hank has the potential to be a league MVP with his dominance in and around the basket and his experience, too, will play a major part in the team’s success.”

Thunder’s match with the USA Select team is a 7.30pm tip-off at Worthing Leisure Centre on Saturday.
