Worthing set for brand-new £450k 3G facilities

A NEW 3G football centre, costing more than £450,000 is to be installed at Worthing Leisure Centre during the first half of next year.

The new divided artificial grass pitches will almost double the number of people who can play at the Leisure Centre at one time and comes after Worthing Leisure identified some much-needed improvements were needed.

Currently, the centre can accommodate only up to 42 people on the pitch but the new divided area will allow up to 80 people to play at one time.

The existing all-weather surface is more than 12 years old and Worthing Leisure says it is no longer considered fit for purpose and is unable to accommodate demand, with staff having to regularly turn away bookings.

Work on the new 3G football pitch will start in April and is anticipated to take around eight weeks to complete.

Cllr Clive Roberts, who is cabinet member for sport, said: “Despite the increasing pressure on resources and an ever-reducing central Government grant to local authorities, I am proud Worthing Leisure has continued to grow its offer to our community.

“With Field Place fast becoming one of the premier wedding venues in the county, new gym equipment at Davison Leisure Centre, not to mention the Splashpoint facilities, I am sure the addition of another first-class offering at Durrington will allow our community to enjoy sports and leisure that will be the envy of our neighbours.”
