For step five club Pagham, it was always going to be a tough task to face step three Worthing and the game started true to expectations. After two early half-chances for the home side, the Mackerel Men grabbed the lead in the 11th minute through ex-Pagham striker Kieron Pamment.

Six minutes later it was 0-2 when Ollie Pearce stroked home a harshly given penalty. After Grant Radmore went narrowly wide with the only Pagham chance of the first half, Mo Jammeh made it 0-3 soon after. Lions keeper Conor Kelly pulled off a terrific save to temporarily stop the flow, but Pamment and Pearce both added their second goals before half-time.- 0-5 at the break and the likelihood of more to come in the second half.

However, soon after Kelly pushed a rocket shot on to the bar, the tide began to turn Pagham’s way. Both sides made various changes, but it was Pagham’s introduction of Calum Chalmers and David Crouch that was to make a difference.

Worthing keeper Buckland managed to save Chalmers' first shot, but not to be denied, the big forward bravely won the ball back on the right and crossed for Jake Heryet to tap home at the far post.

A minute later Worthing got their sixth when a Pagham defensive error let in Jovanovic, but it was not all over yet. The Lions dragged themselves back off the floor and started to prowl once again at the opposite end. Crouch made it two, after Jamie Carroll had hit the post, and skipper Jack Barnes lobbed a perfect third after more excellent work from Chalmers.

Two more chances could have gone in for Pagham, but there was still time for Heryet to grab his second and the Lions fourth when he headed home a Chalmers cross on 86 minutes.

A game to remember and a great end to the first tournement in memory of Lions legend Kew.

Second half goals from Kaleem Haitham (2), Josh Clack, Lloyd Rowlatt and summer signing Ryan Penny helped Chichester to a convincing win over Selsey in this Dave Kew Memorial Cup third-fourth place play-off at Nyetimber Lane.

Tafadzwa Kanjanda, back in the starting X1 after picking up a knock in the first pre-season game away at Loxwood, pinged in a cross in the fourth minute but it was just too high for Clack. A deflected Rowlatt shot gave the Selsey keeper something to think about moments later and Connor Cody, Ryan Davidson, Emmett Dunn, Clack and Rowlatt were all involved in a slick move.

Dunn went close with a header on 10 minutes after nice work from Haitham before Clack raced past a defender only to cross beyond Scott Jones. A 30 yarder from Chi’s Kent based trialist skimmed just wide and Haitham rattled the woodwork with a super strike that bounced down off the bar and out.

Chi stopper Steve Mowthorpe, who’d had nothing to do in the first half hour, was forced to race back to get to a wayward pass from a defender. A mazy Haitham run set up a great opportunity but his attempt skewed wide. Clack and Dunn both fired off target before Rowlatt stung the keeper’s gloves with a thunderous shot and Jones glanced a header over on the stroke of half time.

Matt Axell, Ryan Peake, Rob Hutchings and Penny all came on after the break and the deadlock was broken five minutes in thanks to a super strike from Haitham. Selsey were 2-0 down after Haitham slotted home a Clack cut-back.

Youngster Ethan Prichard replaced the Chi goalscorer and was involved immediately winning a corner. Clack got Chi’s third in the 67th minute when he capitalised on a poor back pass and steered the ball home. A nice finish by Rowlatt made it 4-0 two minutes later. Axell fizzed one over the bar and had another shot charged down before Jones flashed an effort across the goal.

Penny wrapped things up with five minutes to go with his second goal of the week.
