They came up against a ruthless East Preston side on Monday just two days after a 6-1 defeat at home to Crowborough.

Before the weekend, Lancing had taken four points from their opening two league games with a comfortable win over Ringmer and a draw at Chichester.

Whittington said: “We have got to work hard and put it right, we can’t dwell on it too much.

“We’ll get the players in on Thursday and Saturday, as we don’t have a game, for training and take it from there. We have a couple of important cup games coming up, so we’ll work on things defensively and our shape before then.

“It’s always tough coming here (EP) and trying to get a result, but we are more concerned about ourselves and what we are doing.

“We have got to be better defensively, though, and tighten up.”

Next up for Lancing is a second round John O’Hara Cup match at Little Common on Tuesday, before a Sussex Senior Cup first round clash at Rustington next Saturday.
