After a 1-1 draw on Saturday, Lancers lost 4-3 in the replay to their Southern Counties East League opponents.

Lancers were trailing to an early goal when they were reduced to ten men on the half-hour mark as Elliot Finney was sent off for violent conduct.

Despite being a man down, Lancing moved 3-1 ahead with goals either side of half-time.

Lewis Finney levelled from Jake Mills’ cross on 39 minutes and Lancers then took the lead early in the second half through Dan Pollard.

It quickly became 3-1 when Finney scored from the penalty spot after Mike Williamson was brought down but the visitors responded immediately to make it 3-2.

With Lancers tiring, Beckenham levelled on 76 minutes and then got the winner a minute from time.

Lancing manager Ash Bailey said: “There was real disappointment at losing but there were so many positives for us to take.

“The red card was a moment of madness but we responded well to go 3-1 up and I can’t fault the effort of any of the players. We just ran out of steam as they had the extra man on a big pitch.”

Lancers had forced the replay through Lewis Finney’s 59th-minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Bailey admitted Lancers were poor in the first half and trailed to Hassan Jollah’s goal at the break.

Finney had Lancing’s best openings in the first half and he levelled just before the hour after Mike Williamson and Luke Donaldson linked well.

The hosts were reduced to ten men when Jollah was sent off but Lancing were unable to make the extra man count.

Bailey said: “We should have made more of our numerical advantage when they went down to ten. But we were poor in the first half and could have been two or three down at half-time. We showed them too much respect in the first half but took the game to them in the second half and turned it on.”

Lancing begin their league season at AFC Uckfield on Saturday and then host Broadbridge Heath on Tuesday.
