Vastly-experienced Suter took charge at The Shooting Field in June 2013 as the predecessor of Richard Whittington and Tom Gurney.

The well-known and respected former Horsham YMCA manager led Town to a tenth-placed finish in County League Division 2 this season.

Club chairman Richard Woodbridge has said the ‘reluctant’ change has come due to the club’s long-term interest of focusing on youth and in line with their under-21 side starting next season.

He said: “It is with great reluctance that the football committee have come to this decision, however, it has been taken with the best long-term interests with the club at heart.

“There is no escaping the fact results have been disappointing over the last year or so. Next season, with the under-21s beginning, we want to have much more of a focus on youth players and their development through in to our senior squads.

“This is a longer-term approach and we are looking to appoint a settled management team who can help deliver this over a number of years.

“On behalf of the club, I would like to thank John for his efforts over the past two years. His dedication has been second to none, he is a popular character at the club, and on a personal level we got on very well. However, sometimes difficult decisions have to be taken when looking at the wider perspective and longer term view.

“We will be recruiting a replacement over the coming weeks, and we are keen that the new management team can retain the core of last years squad, which has some great characters and certainly has the ability to be pushing in the upper half of this division, whilst making the most of developing the excellent youngsters we have coming through.”
