STEYNING Town Football Club crashed out of the Sussex RUR Cup 6-1 at home to division-higher Pagham on Tuesday evening.
Town trailed 5-0 at half-time as Dan Simmonds hit a first half hat-trick.
Simmonds struck his fourth to make it 6-0 early in the second half, before Lewis Levoi got a goal back for Steyning on the hour.
Town boss Alan Skipper said: “To be fair, we were simply outplayed in the first half by a very decent side.
“They were sharper, quicker and more hungry. That said, after a strong but positive half-time team talk the lads, to their credit, reacted really well and it was a more competitive affair, with the second half ending 1-1.
“As a squad, we need to learn to eliminate individual errors and ensure we focus throughout the 90 minutes.
“I’m not looking for excuses but we did have five key players out owing to injury and unavailability.”
On Saturday, Town travel to Rochester United in the FA Vase second qualifying round. Steyning then entertain Selsey in the Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday.
