Southwick FC to dish out awards - and cash to NHS charities

Southwick FC have named their 2019-20 award winners – and put the money they would have spent on their presentation night to good use.

In the SCFL division one club’s first-team awards, Harry Heath was named as the manager’s player of the year while the players’ player was Liam Austin.

Supporters’ player was Ben Thomsett and clubman of the year was Steve Alfrey.

For Southwick’s under-23s, the manager’s player of the season was Adam Steele and the players’ player Brad Stevens.

The U23s’ best trainer/most improved player was George Mckechnie and the award for top scorer was Jack Rayner.

Bottles of bubbly will be awarded in due course but the club have decided to donate funds that would have paid for the presentation night to the charitable arm of the local NHS trusts.

* Southwick FC say they are saddened to learn that Ray Westgate has died at the age of 73.

Ray was assistant manager alongside Chris White for Mick Fogden in their Sussex League division-two promotion-winning 1993-94 season. He was No2 in Division 1 under Russell Bromage.

The club said: “Ray was a real football man.”
