SHOREHAM Football Club reached the first-qualifying round of the FA Cup following a replay win at Horley Town on Tuesday.

Mussels drew 1-1 with Horley on Saturday but strikes from Kane Louis, Melford Simpson and Toby House ensured Mussels got the victory in the replay.

Player-manager Louis was delighted to progress in the FA Cup and bank the £1,925 prize money. He said: “I could not fault any of the players.

“We felt we should have won on Saturday, so went into this one with confidence.

“It was an important win for us.

“That victory is dedicated to Jacob and Matt after the tragic events at the Shoreham Airshow.

“We will also be donated £500 of our prize money to their fund.”

Shoreham started well and went ahead after just 12 minutes. Louis, who had netted Mussels’ goal on Saturday from the penalty spot, opened the scoring.

It was 2-0 13 minutes later as Simpson ensured Shoreham would go in two-goals to the good at the break.

The home side did pull a goal back ten minutes after half-time but House then netted a minute later to make it 3-1.

Horley did manage to bag a second with sometime still left in the game but Shoreham held on.

Mussels will host Eastbourne Town in the next round on September 12.

SHOREHAM: Taylor; Bell, Larin, Allen, Edwards; Miller, Petrie, Bozyigit, House; Louis, Simpson. Subs: Bichard (Miller), Newby-Harris (Bozyigit), Izuchukwu (Simpson).
