Rivers stars as Thunder move out of bottom two

HANK Rivers top-scored in both of Worthing Thunder Basketball Club’s victories at the weekend as they moved out of the relegation zone in EBL Division 1.

Thunder climbed to third-from-bottom, after a 66-52 win at Medway Park Crusaders on Saturday was followed up with a 90-69 victory over Hemel Storm on Sunday.

Rivers led the way with 22 points at Medway and then sank a season-best 41 points against Hemel on Sunday, when Thunder recorded their largest victory of the season.

After the Hemel win, Rivers said: “It was great to get the win. Our second half showings haven’t been great recently and even today the third wasn’t our greatest but we played hard and for each other in the fourth and all in all, it’s a great weekend.”

Thunder now travel to Derby Trailblazers, who have fallen to second-from-bottom, this Saturday. Thunder coach Daniel Hildreth said: “It’s a big opportunity for us to create some space, so it’s going to be a very important match.”
