Poyet to McLean up?

Seagull star Craig Mackail-Smith could be reunited with his old strike partner Aaron McLean if Gus Poyet gets his way in the January transfer window.

The Hull City striker, who linked up with the Albion’s Scottish hotshot during their time at Peterborough, has scored seven goals in 43 games for the KC Stadium outfit.

But the 28-year-old has told friends he is being lined up for a move to the south coast, with Brighton expected to end their long-term interest in Billy Paynter, who has failed to convince since joining from Leeds United on loan.

Hull City are keen to secure funds for Nigel Pearson’s replacement, which looks increasingly likely to be caretaker boss and local lad Nick Barmby.
