Orlandi in - Mackail-Smith out?

Brighton look set to confirm the signing of Barcelona born Andrea Orlandi from Premier League Swansea but could be forced to prepare for life without their record signing because Norwich City are moving for Craig Mackail-Smith.

With deadline fever heating up on the south coast, Brighton are looking to replace Cardiff bound Craig Noone with Spanish wide man Orlandi, with his signed expected to be confirmed later today.

However, Sky Sports is now reporting that the Canaries have bid for Mackail-Smith – a move which would leave Ashley Barnes as the Albion’s only recognised senior striker.

Mackail-Smith signed at the start of last season for a club record £2.5million, with the fee potentially going up if certain clauses are hit.

Leeds United were heavily linked to the Scotland international earlier in the summer but Gus Poyet said no firm bid had been made.

It is thought that an offer approaching £3million would tempt Poyet into selling as long as there was time for a replacement to be signed before the transfer window closes.

The Albion enjoy good relations with Norwich, with a number of players having moved between the clubs in recent seasons.
