Newcastle's Dwight Gayle has been ruled out of top-of-the-table clash with Brighton tomorrow

The 26-year-old former Crystal Palace striker has scored 20 goals in 22 starts this season, but is not fully fit after picking up a knock in his side’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa last week.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is not ready to risk his star man ahead of their crucial run of games which continued against Huddersfield Town and Reading.

Speaking at his press conference this afternoon, Benitez revealed: "He is still improving but not ready for this game."

The former Real Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool manager went on the praise Albion and Chris Hughton and speak of their crunch month.

He said: "In April we have seven games to play, and I think that will be the crucial month. We are training well, and we will stick together and help each other.

"We know that we made some mistakes the other day, but the reaction was so good - you have to think about the positives."
