Newcastle to move for Dunk

Brighton’s hugely promising central defender Lewis Dunk could be on his way to Newcastle United.

Reports coming out of the North East today suggest that Toon boss Alan Pardew is preparing a bid for the talented youngster, who has emerged as a key figure in Gus Poyet’s Championship outfit.

The composed defender graduated to the first team at the tail end of last season after coming through the ranks at the Amex, but has already been linked with a move to the Premiership despite being only midway through his first full season in the front side.

An under 21 squad call-up marked the high point of his season so far, with Dunk missing Albion’s 3v0 home win over Southampton yesterday through his second suspension of the season.

Back-up defender Steve Cook has already been linked with a move to League One Bournemouth, but was recalled to the Amex amid an injury and suspension crisis made worse but another red card for the Albion during yesterday’s win.

Any move by Dunk is unlikely to take place until the summer, but Pardew may try and steal a march in his rivals by formalising his interest during this window.
