Chad Milner had fired Town ahead ten minutes from time but Myers netted twice in the closing stages to ensure his side claimed a 2-1 win in the Southern Combination League Division 1 clash.

Southwick manager John Kilgarriff was serving a stadium ban after he picked up a misconduct charge following comments made in a game against Bexhill United earlier this season.

Despite not being at the match, he was delighted with the work from his team and, in particular, assistant Tony Gratwicke in his absence.

He said: “From what I’ve heard we played really well and deserved the victory.

“Steyning are in good form at the minute and we would have settled to come away with something. After going behind with ten minutes left, the boys showed great character to comeback and win it.

“It was a really good victory and it extends our unbeaten league run to seven matches now.”

Dean Smith so nearly fired Southwick ahead on the half-hour, Ben Presslie’s cross picked him out, only for his effort from four yards to stay out after striking both posts.

Both sides began to push men forward in the closing stages, which set-up an enthralling final ten minutes.

After Southwick keeper Ben Stevens failed to collect a corner, Milner was on hand to slot into an empty net on 80 minutes.

Back came Wickers, though, with Myers firing past Ben Rose just two minutes later.

A draw looked the most likely result but Myers had over ideas and bagged his second and the winner a minute into stoppage-time.

Wickers are back in action tomorrow whem they face a tricky trip to three divisions higher Ryman League Premier outfit Bognor Regis Town for a Sussex Senior Cup second-round encounter (7.45pm).
