SHOREHAM Football Club exited the Peter Bentley Cup after their second round defeat at Eastbourne Town on Tuesday.

Town came out on top thanks to strikes from Matthew Darby, Gordon Cuddington and George Robinson in a 3-1 success.

Despite the defeat, player-boss Kane Louis feels his team can take some positives from their clash.

The sides will meet once again on Saturday in the FA Cup first-qualifying round at Middle Road on Saturday and Louis said: “It’s obviously disappointing to lose in any cup competition.

“But this gave me a chance to rest a few players ahead of the FA Cup game coming on.

“We play Eastbourne Town once again on Saturday and it was a good chance for us to have a look at them.

“They rested a few players as did we but it gave us an opportunity to get ready for the FA Cup meeting.

“I can’t fault any of the players for their performance a couple of second-half goals for them were the difference in the end.”

Darby fired Town ahead just six minutes into the clash.

Shoreham responded well, though, and levelled when Craig Stevens netted two minutes before the break.

It was the home side who took the lead for a second time with 60 minutes on the clock Cuddington crashed a strike past Nic Taylor.

Shoreham pushed for an equaliser for the remainder of the game but could not find it and Robinson’s goal two minutes into injury-time sealed Eastbourne’s place in the next round.

SHOREHAM: Taylor; Edwards, Allan, Larin, Magwidi; Stevens, Izuchukwu, Fleming, Miller; Goldson, Petrie. Subs: Dunk (Magwidi), Heath (Edwards), Bozyigit (Fleming), Measor.
