Mussels have won all three of their matches this season, after beginning the campaign with a 3-0 FA Cup win at Worthing United and then easing to a 5-1 win at home to Hailsham in their league opener on Saturday.

Shoreham made a bright start in their Southern Combination League Premier Division match at Loxwood.

Richard Greenfield missed an open goal before George Gaskin headed them into a eighth-minute lead from Mitchell Hand’s corner.

Rob O’Toole then powerfully headed home Scott Packer’s cross to make it 2-0 after 16 minutes.

Mussels could have increased their lead but Joe Keehan smashed a penalty against the bar, before Shoreham keeper Josh Heyburn made an excellent save late in the half.

In a scrappy second half, Gaskin had Mussels’ best opportunity before Loxwood got a goal back through Mark Cave 15 minutes from time.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser but Shoreham held on for all three points and boss O’Toole said: “It was the best we have played as a group and we stuck together, which was pleasing to see. It’s been a good start and we’ll keep ticking games off one at a time. I’m really pleased with everybody at the moment.”

Mussels entertain Ryman League South Division side Dorking Wanderers in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday (3pm).
