ALEX LAING hit a late equaliser to earn Shoreham Football Club a draw away to Ringmer in County League Division 1 on Saturday.
The Mussels fell behind on nine minutes when Dan Rogers struck but Laing netted a leveller five minutes from time to secure a point.
Shoreham player-boss Kane Louis was pleased with the point and said: “I think a draw was probably a fair result in the end.
“Ringmer is never an easy place to go and the conditions made it difficult for both sides.
“We created a few good opportunities in the game and I think it would have been really disappointing if we had taken nothing.
“We found it really tricky in the first half as we were playing uphill.”
Louis was full of praise for Laing, who continued his hot streak in front of goal: “That is Alex’s tenth goal in ten games at the club and he has been excellent since coming in from Worthing.
“I met with him before he signed and he said all he wanted to do was play football and he seems to be really enjoying his time here.
“It’s not just goals with Alex, though. His work-rate is fantastic and he has also set up a number of goals for the team. I hope he continues to score many more times in the coming weeks.”
It was the home side who took the lead on nine minutes when Shoreham failed to clear a corner and Rogers was on hand to fire the ball home.
Shoreham responded well to falling a goal behind and could have levelled just after the break but Rob Allan headed just wide from a corner.
Laing then almost levelled but his right-footed shot which beat the keeper was blocked on the line.
Mussels keeper Nick Taylor pulled off a superb diving save ten minutes from time and that proved crucial as with just five minutes left Laing slotted the ball home to earn Mussels a point.
The draw leaves Shoreham 15th in the table, seven points ahead of third-from-bottom Ringmer, who have three games in hand.
