The 24-year-old replaces Mark Bennett, who stepped down on Thursday, as boss of the Sussex County League champions.

Gaskin, who was part of the title-winning side, scoring 14 goals, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to accept the position of manager of Littlehampton Town Football Club.

“It means a lot to me and I’m thrilled the committee and chairman have the faith in my abilities.”

Littlehampton chairman Rob McAlees revealed the decision to appoint Gaskin was a no-brainer.

He said: “The decision to appoint George was an easy one.

“Ever since Mark left, I made it clear that we wanted to bring in a man with local connections and George has that.

“George has been on and off with the club since the age of 16 and he knows what Littlehampton is about.

“I met with him a few times and he was really keen to get this role.

“George conducted himself very well in his interview and I’m delighted to have him on board.

“If you are good enough, you are old enough and I’m hopeful George will prove that.”
