Frustrating day as Mile Oak are held at St.Francis

After Jamie McKenzie fired Oak ahead three minutes into first half stoppage-time, Sam Fildes levelled things up 20 minutes from the finish as it ended all square in the Southern Combination League Division 1 contest.

Shoulders saw his side waste a number of clear-cut chances, while Joe Benn also blazed a late spot-kick over.

Mile Oak boss Shoulders felt it was two points dropped and said: “It was very frustrating. We must have had 15 clear-cut chances and missed them all.

“For Joe Benn to miss a penalty in the last minute summed up the day for us.

“We should have won the game, it was a game that I expected three points in, but you are going to get games like this through the season.

“St Francis were what I thought they would be. They worked hard and made it very difficult for us.

“Credit to their goalkeeper, he made some great saves in the second half and kept them in the game.”

After dominating the opening 45 minutes, Oak finally broke the deadlock three minutes into first half stoppage-time.

McKenzie notched his seventh league goal of the campaign as Mile Oak looked to take command.

It was more of the same in the second half, with St.Francis goalkeeper Jordan Markey pulling off a string of fine stops.

Oak were caught on the counter as the home side levelled things up 20 minutes from time.

Fildes was the man to get the surprise strike as S Francis hauled themselves back in it.

Oak kept pushing for a winner and an ideal opportunity was handed to them a minute from time.

Referee Daniel D’Urso pointed to the spot but Joe Benn missed his first spot-kick of season as his side were forced to settle for a point.
