After taking the lead on five minutes through a Sam Blundell spot-kick, Jack Piner’s first-half own-goal and Frost’s late strike saw Ringmer return home with all three points.

A disastrous league start has seen Wickers drop to second from bottom in the standings but boss John Kilgarriff is not concerned just yet.

He said: “It’s been an awful start and I can’t believe we lost the game on Saturday. Ringmer were just playing long balls but for some reason we couldn’t defend it.

“Looking at the games we’ve had so far, to not take a point form games against both Steyning and Ringmer is not good enough for me.

“We’ve mixed things up over the summer and brought some younger players in but at the minutes we just do not seem to be clicking.

“There is still a long way to go but with a tough run coming up, our results need to improve quickly.”

Wickers got off to a dream start as Harvey Dunk was hauled down just five minutes in and referee Barry Cox pointed to the penalty spot.

Blundell stepped up only to see his spot-kick saved, before he was handed a retake as Ringmer keeper Ryan Reid advanced too far from his goalline.

Wickers’ forward made no mistake at the second time of asking as he handed his side an early lead.

Southwick then should have had a second as great work from Ryan Pretlove saw him square for Blundell but he somehow blazed over with the goal gaping on 20 minutes.

That miss would prove costly as Piner fired into his own net ten minutes before the interval.

Southwick had an off on the day in front of goal with Tom Shelley, Blundell and Piner all wasting good opportunities in the second half.

With the game heading for a draw, a slip from Dean Lipscombe let Frost in and he fired past Aaron Howard to hand Ringmer their first league win of the season.

SOUTHWICK: Howard; Tucker, Lipscombe, Peskett, Dunk; Smith, Shelley, Piner; Gillard, Blundell, Pretlove. Subs: Kilgarriff (Gillard), Presslie (Smith), McLennan (Tucker), Lowe.
