The win was Oak’s ninth in ten unbeaten matches and they remain fifth in Southern Combination League Division 1 but are now just six points behind third-placed Storrington, with three games in hand.

Town made a bright start but Oak went ahead against the run of play on nine minutes when Eric Wedge-Bull was fouled in the penalty area and Nick Lansdale scored from the spot.

Danny Curd swept home the second from a corner on 26 minutes, before Curd set up Jamie Watts to make it 3-0 on 53 minutes.

Jack Arnold got Oak’s fourth on the hour, before Steyning got a goal back through Lewis Levoi’s penalty 15 minutes later. Levoi then blasted another spot-kick over late on.

Oak boss Anthony Whittington said: “The first half was fairly even but we got our goals at good times. We were camped in their half at the start of the second half and deserved our 4-0 lead.”

MILE OAK: Stenning; Lansdale, Pollard, Whiting, Hall; Watts, Garrod, Gould, Arnold; Wedge-Bull, Curd. Subs: French (Garrod 65), Seltzer (Watts 70), Gillingham (Gould 75), Harley.
