WORTHING UNITED Football Club put in a five-star performance to win away to Little Common on Saturday.

A hat-trick from Mark O’Regan and a Sam Blundell brace ensured leaders United won for the 16th time in their 19 league matches.

The Mavericks remain six points clear of second-placed Wick, who scored twice in the last seven minutes to beat Bexhill 3-1 on Saturday.

United boss Nigel Geary was impressed with his side’s victory and said: “It was another impressive win for us. Once again we were on it from the first whistle and put in a really good display.

“The only downside was the fact that Little Common scored just after the half-hour to make it 1-1.

“We responded well, though, and took the lead soon afterwards.

“I have been particularly impressed with our results recently as we have been without a number of first-team regulars through injury.

“But the others have come in and done a really good job for the side.

“We knew going to Little Common would be a tough challenge as Wick lost 4-0 there earlier in the year.

“So, for us to come here, score five goals and take all three points is a great effort.

“Wick are continuing to pick up victories, so we know that we will have to do the same if we are to go on and win the title.”

O’Regan bagged his first after just five minutes to get his side off to the best possible start.

It could well have been 2-0 on 15 minutes but Blundell failed to find the target.

Little Common managed to get back on level terms against the run of play on 33 minutes when Lewis Hole struck.

United were in back in front on 40 minutes, though, as O’Regan netted his second.

The visitors then made sure of all three points thanks to strikes in the 55th and 60th minutes from Blundell, which took him to 18 goals for the season.

O’Regan then completed his hat-trick 12 minutes from the end to round off a comprehensive win for United.
