FA Cup picture special - Cup is stunning for Steyning

Steyning Town are making great progress in the FA Cup - but boss Gerry Murphy has challenged his players to take their Cup form into the league.

Town took an early two-goal lead in Saturday’s home preliminary round tie against Hanworth Villa, with George Cousins scoring both goals. The visitors fought back well but could only peg back Steyning to 2-1, missing a number of chances to take the tie to penalties. That’s two rounds Murphy’s team have come through following their 2-0 win at K Sports in the extra preliminary round. Steyning are at home to Sheppey United in the first qualifying round next Tuesday. Murphy was pleased but admitted they were a little fortunate – and said it was important they carried their winning form into the league.
