Craig Knowles, Rob Clark and Lee Garnham all netted as Town recorded a memorable Southern Combination League Division 1 win over second-placed Down.

The home side looked to be cruising to a comfortable win as Knowles opened the scoring on 44 minutes, before Clark added a second five minutes after the break.

But back came Down and Ollie Leslie pulled one back on 55 minutes. The comeback was complete ten minutes from time when Sam Cane made it 2-2.

However, Garnham popped up with his second goal in as many games two minutes from time to ensure Town took all three points.

Steyning boss Alan Skipper said: “It was a much-deserved and more comfortable three points than the scoreline suggests. It’s just inconsistency that has cost us in the league this season.”

STEYNING: Rose; Finch, Gainsford, Dodd, Al-Samaraie; Chadwick, S.Skipper, Garnham, Levoi; Knowles, Waller. Subs: Hare (Chadwick), Sharpe (Levoi), Clark (Waller), Assefi, Early.
