Upper Beeding boss Josh Baldock is targeting a top-four league finish

Josh Baldock is hopeful Upper Beeding Football Club can seal a top-four finish in Southern Combination League Division 2 this season.

Beeding made their long-awaited return to the Southern Combination League last term and managed to secure a seventh-placed finish.

Baldock felt, at times, his side were a little inexperienced in certain situations which he has tried to rectify over the summer.

A major recruitment drive has seen him add eight players, with goalkeeper JJ Banasco-Zaragoza the only player not returning from last season’s squad.

Beeding’s boss believes the addition of more experienced Southern Combination League campaigners will be a massive benefit.

He said: “I was working off a core squad of around 16 players which was tricky at times last season.

“We coped quite well last term and managed to achieve our target of a top-half finish.

“It’s all about improvement for us this season and we want to be in one of those top four places.

“I’ve added some really experienced and talented players with experience at this level or higher, so that will be massive for us.”

Baldock’s side get their second season in Division 2 underway with a long trip to Westfield on Saturday.

Beeding’s boss admits it won’t be an easy place to start and sees them as dark horses this year.

He added: “It’s a long trip for us first up but pre-season has gone well and we want to get off to a good start.

“I think this season Westfield could be a real force and this will be a really tough game.

“We were 3-1 up here and felt we probably should have done better than the draw we got, so we’ll want to win this time.”

In: Nathaniel Rowland, Daniel Nason (both Holbrook), Tom Broadfoot (Southwick), Dan Brice, Dan Short (both Patridge Green), Scott Dermott, Jack Whittingham (both Mile Oak), Adam Skinner (Storrington).

Out: JJ Bansaco-Zaragoza (Steyning Town).
