Baldock delighted with important goal

Striker Sam Baldock was more delighted with the importance of his opening goal in the 3-0 win against Reading tonight than the quality of it.

Albion's 27-year-old forward has scored a number of stunners in his 11 goals this season but does not have a favourite among his strikes.

He said: "They're all different. I liked that one today because it's more of a striker's movement goal. And it was quite an important goal because they were the team on top.

"But in terms of rating them, no. I'd rather the importance of the goal."

Baldock latched on to a long ball over the top from Bruno, before controlling it and rifling home and said: "I glanced at Bruno, he looked at me and I knew what was coming.

"With the quality he's got, I knew where he was going to put it. I lost it slightly in the light but as it came back in focus, I managed to get my foot there and bring it down. I used the defender behind me almost as someone I could fall on to and shot high.

"I thought we were very comfortable in our shape but they were comfortable on the ball and were dominating the game for a lot of the time.

"They're a very good side and they moved the ball really well, so it was good to get that goal and very pleasing to get the three points."

On the importance of the win against a promotion rival, Baldock said: "It's a very big three points because it was the next game. We're still not looking at tables and what have you.

"We're going to go into Tuesday to try to win that one.

"A club like Newcastle is massive and I'm sure they'll sell out their end and we'll sell out our end. It's going to be an exciting night but we're there to do a job and we're strictly focused on that."
