Bailey buoyant ahead of RUR Cup semi-final

LANCING Football Club boss Ash Bailey looked ahead to Tuesday's Sussex RUR Cup semi-final clash with Chichester City and said: 'It's one we are looking forward too.'

Lancers will go into the clash full of confidence after overcoming City in their last league clash, which took place on January 23.

That day strikes from Richard Greenfield, Will Berry and Ross Adams were enough to ensure Bailey’s side ran out 3-1 winners in the Southern Combination League clash.

But the Lancers boss feels it is important his side do not go into the Culver Road clash overly confident.

Earlier in the season Lancers beat Eastbourne United in the Sussex Senior Cup first round, before suffering a league reverse to the same side four days later.

Bailey is wary of those results and will make sure his side remain grounded going into the final-four tie.

He said: “It’s a big game for everyone at the club.

“Once you get this far in any competition, you are looking to win it.

“In our last game, we beat Chichester and ended their good run.

“Before that match, I lost three players before the game but those who came in did a good job and we deserved the win.

“But I’m sure they will be out to try and come back at us for that loss, so it’s important the players are not over confident going into it.”

Tuesday’s game will be Lancing’s first for 17 days after their league clash with Wick & Barnham on Saturday was postponed owing to a waterlogged pitch.

The tie will be played at Culver Road, a ground where Lancing play their home games, with Bailey seeing this as an advantage going into the clash.

He added: “Obviously, it’s nice to be able to play at Culver Road on the 3G.

“I back the side to compete with any team at home and this one will be no different.

“We just need to make sure that we focus fully on this game and don’t look any further ahead.

“It’s going to be a good day for the club and if we can get the win, we will be in a cup final.”
