As well as trebles for both forwards, Ben Presslie also struck as John Kilgarriff’s side romped to a 7-2 home Southern Combination League Division 1 success over Langney Wanderers.

Southwick boss Kilgarriff felt the victory was just reward for improved performances in recent matches.

He said: “We were phenomenal and deserved the victory. I’ve been saying in recent weeks that we were going to hand a heavy beating to someone and we did that.

“In Andy McDowell I’d say we’ve got the best striker in this league.

“We’re starting to get on a little bit of a run now. We struggled a little bit at the start of the season but the squad is coming together nicely now.”

Remarkably Wickers went behind with nine minutes on the clock. Nathan Crabb was sent racing clear and he made no mistake as he fired past Brad Stevens.

Southwick were back in it five minutes later as McDowell got his first of the afternoon.

Myers then netted his first eight minutes later as the home side took the lead for the first time.

A fine first half was then complete as McDowell added a third on 36 minutes.

Wickers were cruising and Presslie made it 4-1 six minutes after the break.

McDowell then notched his eighth goal in just three matches to complete his hat-trick ten minutes from time.

A disastrous day for Wanderers then got worse as Paul Wetherby was shown two yellow cards for dissent, leaving his side a man light.

Myers then became the second Southwick player to bag a hat-trick as he netted seven minutes from time.

Paul Rogers thundered a 25-yard strike past Stevens in Southwick’s goal but that was just a consolation as Wickers recorded an emphatic success.

Southwick continued their excellent form on Tuesday when they won 3-0 at Bexhill to reach the second round of the Sussex Senior Cup.

Wickers were against the wind in the first half but took the lead after just nine minutes when Ross Petts fired home after Dean Smith’s header was cleared off the line.

Southwick doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half when Ross Myers’ brilliant overhead kick found the bottom corner, before Jordan Groom got the third with an excellent solo goal 15 minutes from time.

Kilgarriff said: “It was a really good win and we were fantastic. In the last four or five games, we’ve been excellent and have just got better and better.”

Wickers travel to Midhurst in the league on Saturday.
