Albion’s weekend betting odds

BRIGHTON & Hove Albion continue to hold their own against the big boys in the Championship and extended their unbeaten run to six league games with a 2-0 defeat of previous title favourites QPR at The Amex on Tuesday.

The three points aside, the win will have been a massive boost to manager Oscar Garcia and his men, with the players hopefully given the belief that Premier League football is indeed achievable.

BetVictor make the Seagulls 7/4 for a top-six finish sat two points behind Reading but with a game in hand. Both QPR and Nottingham Forest seem to be losing their way and have been eased out to 9/4 and 8/1 for promotion, whilst Albion have been clipped into 8/1.

It is no coincidence that the resurgence in form has coincided with Leo Ulloa’s return from injury. The Argentine has netted six in his last eight games and could still potentially challenge those at the top of the scoring charts.

He is 50/1 with BetVictor but still 11 goals behind 4/9 favourite Ross McCormack and Ulloa will once again be relied upon up front for Brighton’s trip to Bolton at the weekend and will no doubt be instrumental in Albion getting a result.

BetVictor make Bolton the 6/4 favourites, Brighton 21/10 and the draw 23/10, however I think it’s fair to say that the Trotters’ price is such due to the game being held at the Reebok Stadium and if the game was at the Amex, then Brighton would be odds-on favourites.

Dougie Freedman’s side held Derby to goalless draw midweek and are unbeaten in five but have put in some howlers along the way this season, including beaten 7-1 at Reading and 5-3 at Leicester.

Brighton won the reverse fixture 3-1 at the Amex and whilst that looks a bit steep at 30/1, it could be worth playing it safe and siding with 2-0, which is 16/1 with BetVictor.

Chelsea are the new 5/6 favourites for the Premier League title after a 4-0 demolition job of London rivals Spurs at the weekend.

They maintained the fortress like feel that Jose Mourinho has at Stamford Bridge, a run that now stretches to an incredible 76 games.

Mourinho heads the betting for March’s PL manager of the month and is the new 5/2 favourite after the scalp of Tottenham. Star player Eden Hazard has attracted similar support and has been cut to 6/1 with BetVictor to be the player of the month after yet another vintage performance.

Chelsea can build on their lead at the top further when travelling to Villa Park at the weekend; Aston Villa 6/1, Chelsea 8/15 and the draw 3/1.

The Blues are in sensational form at present and despite Villa beating Norwich 4-1 a fortnight ago, they often come a cropper against the big boys. Chelsea should run out ready winners and the 5/4 about them in the half time/full time market with BetVictor looks far too big.

Title rivals Manchester City travel to Hull for Saturday’s early kick-off, the Tigers buoyant after reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup (7/2 to lift the trophy) for the first time since 1934. Steve Bruce’s side are in good form at present and could spring an upset against the Citizens, who will have been shocked by their FA Cup exit to Wigan; Hull 6/1, City ½ and the draw 10/3.

Punters wanting to nick a few quid at the festival could do a lot worse than backing Bobs Worth in the Gold Cup on Friday. The reigning champion is the 13/8 favourite with BetVictor to win the blue riband of the sport and can seal back-to-back Gold Cup’s and maintain his 100 per cent record at the track.
