Crofts, in his second spell with the Seagulls, has made just shy of 100 appearances for the club.

He fought his way back into the team during pre-season, having missed the second half of the 2013-14 campaign with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Manager Sami Hyypia is happy to see Crofts extend his current deal and feels the 30-year-old has been an important influence on and off the field.

He said: “He has shown he has now recovered from his injury and will be an important part of the squad – and deserves this extension to his contract.

“He is a good professional, with an excellent attitude to training and matches. As an experienced player he is also an important influence on the younger players coming through to the first team.”

Crofts joined the Seagulls for a second time in 2012 from Norwich, having left the south-coast for the Canaries in 2010.

He helped Norwich secure promotion from the Championship and the Welsh international spent a year in the top flight before returning to the Seagulls.

The combative midfielder featured 26 times during his first year back with the club. He then hit the net six times in 27 appearances last season, before injury curtailed his season in January.
