Dawson targets top three

WORTHING Raiders Rugby Club’s head coach Kieron Dawson is targeting a top three finish in National League 2 South this season.

Raiders get their season underway on Saturday when they travel to Clifton, which will be former Ireland international Dawson’s first competitive game in charge.

He took over as head coach in the summer, from Will Green, after he had been forwards coach for two years.

He said: “A lot of teams are going to be of a similar standard at the top this year and there’s no reason why we can’t be in the top two or top three. That’s our realistic aim.

“It’s going to be very difficult but if you want to be successful, you want to be aiming high.”

Dawson has brought in former player, winger Kiba Richards, who last played for Worthing in 2007, and has also signed centre Darren Clayton, who has previously played for Coventry and Esher.

He is still looking to add to the front row, while winger Greg Sullivan is the main departure from last season.
