Yorkshire on top on day two

Sussex started the day on 300-9 and added 16 more runs, before Jon Lewis fell for 61.

Adam Lyth and Alex Lees shared a 56-run stand for Yorkshire’s opening wicket, before the latter was out lbw to Steve Magoffin for 22.

Lyth then put on 73 for the second wicket with Leaning, before he became Magoffin’s second wicket of the day when he was out for 66, after hitting six fours and two sixes from 153 balls.

Andrew Gale was bowled for five by Sussex debutant James Tredwell with the score on 139 but Leaning and Jonny Bairstow ensured Yorkshire finished the day just three wickets down, on 208-3.

Leaning is 75 not out, which is a career-high first-class score. He has struck eight fours from 212 deliveries.

Bairstow is unbeaten on 33 from 72 balls.
