And they have been busy behind the scenes as the new season approaches.

With outdoor training due to commence with pre-booked net practice from next Monday, March 29, the opportunity has already been taken to redecorate and refurbish the clubhouse.

Matt Davies is looking forward to leading the first XI again, and he has joined forces with fast bowler Alex Collins to head up a membership drive, with marketing expert Jonathan Taylor added to the committee to boost commercial activities and marketing.

Rohit Jagota has been appointed director of youth cricket, with the level three qualified star all-rounder looking to step up post lockdown activity to maximise on the opportunities Roffey offer to local colts in a fully inclusive environment.

Chairman Josh Fleming, a former first team skipper, told the County Times: “We’re eager to get the club reopened, initially on match days, and we’ve got a lot of cricket coming up, with four Saturday sides and a Sunday side.

“Our first game at the club will be on Saturday, May 8, when we welcome Cuckfield, and we’re all interested to see how the seconds shape up following their promotion to Division Two, their highest ever standing.”

Prior to indoor service being resumed (if all goes well with lockdown easing), players will need to bring their own teas, pending restoration of the legendary extravaganzas laid on by Suzanne Davies and Anne Walker.

All sports clubs have endured a most difficult, frustrating, year, but, with Roffey enjoying especially loyal support, treasurer Mark Pavlovic confirms that the club remains in good heart ahead of becoming fully reopened again on Mid Summer’s Day.

Joining Roffey in the 2021 Premier Division are Hastings & St Leonards, East Grinstead, Haywards Heath, Brighton, Preston Nomads, Eastbourne, Cuckfield, Three Bridges and Middleton.

With the seconds in Division Two are Burgess Hill, Bognor, Chichester, Horsham, Lindield, Mayfield, Preston Nomads IIs, St James and Billingshurst.
