Sussex League round-up: Roffey are new Premier Division leaders

ROFFEY Cricket Club are the new leaders of the Sussex League Premier Division after their six-wicket victory over East Grinstead yesterday.

East Grinstead won the toss and made 177-9, where they declared in the 58th over, but Roffey crossed the line with 182-4 in the 45th over.

There were top-scores of 45 from Ollie Graham and an unbeaten 48 from Rohit Jagota.

With the ball, George Fleming picked up 4-30.

The victory sees Roffey leapfrog previous leaders Cuckfield, who were beaten at Preston Nomads.

Nomads replied with 183-5 to Cuckfield’s 182 to win by five wickets.

Oliver Altendorf hit 66 for Cuckfield, but Nomads’ Oliver Gatting stole the show with 88.

Brighton & Hove (227) saw off basement side Bexhill (116) by 111 runs.

Brighton’s Jordan Rollings hit the top-score of 72, while a Matthew Wood record a superb haul of 8-40.

Hasting and St Leonards and Three Bridges drew their clash at Horntye Park.

Hastings, having won the toss, batted first and put up 292-2, where they declared on 56 overs, but they failed to bowl Bridges out, who finished on 187-9.

Harry Finch smashed a remarkable 168 not out from 154 balls for Hastings.

The opening batsmen hit 18 fours and six sixes.

Horsham clinched a 58-run win at home to Eastbourne as John Burrows scored 120 runs for the hosts.

They posted 256-6, where they declared after 50 overs, before Eastbourne replied with 198.

Michael Munday claimed 4-57 for the hosts.

In Division 2, Middleton made it five wins from five with a three-wicket victory at home to Ifield.

Ifield, having been put in to bat, made 191 before the home side replied with 194-7.

Middleton captain Brandon Hanley led the way with the bat by scoring 57, while Anthony Ender picked up 4-36 with the ball.

Findon drew their match at Crowhurst Park despite putting the home side into bat first.

The hosts put up 183-9, while Findon held on to score 106-9.

Findon’s Curtis Howell took 5-41 and Crowhurst’s Paul Brookes picked up 6-31.

St James (128-1) chased down Chichester’s 127 to win by nine wickets at Priory Park.

Visiting bowler Adam Din record 7-32, before smashing 79 off 60 balls.

Goring (219-6) got their first win of the season with a four-wicket triumph at home to Lindfield (215-7 dec).

Lindfield’s Michael Rippon scored an unbeaten 85 and Goring’s South African Shane de Beer scored 76 in their winning reply.

Billingshurst (173-8) held Worthing (203-7 dec) for a draw at the Manor Ground.

Nick Oxley and Benn Challen both hit 57 for the home side, while Scott Stratton top-scored with 65 for the visitors.

Early-season pace-setters Crawley Eagles continue to lead the way in Division 3 after a four-wicket win against Haywards Heath.

Heath struggled from 1-3 to 104 all out on what looked a good batting pitch. Young Tashaffi Shams top-scored with 24, while veteran Gary Honeysett made 21 in the face of excellent bowling from Eagles’s Adil Mustafa, who took 5-21 in 13.

In reply, Eagles were 51-5 and it’s was anyone’s game, but lower-order batters Anjum Zafer and Fazlan Nizamdeen scored 27* and 22* to secure the win for home side and keep them top of the table.

Bognor (229-8) won by 98 runs away to Rottingdean (131).

Joe Ashmore and Elliott Clarke claimed 5-19 and 4-41 with the ball for the visiting team.

Pulborough got their first win of the campaign with a four-wicket win against Glynde and Bedingham.

Glynde, having lost the toss, were put into bat and posted 203-7 before Pulborough replied with 206-6.

Saurabh Tiwari top-scored with 99 for the victorious side.

Ansty (99-1) comfortably beat struggling Stirlands by nine wickets.

The basement side made just 98 in 43.4 overs as Leo Anderson picked up 4-13, before an unbeaten 47 from James Whybrow and 36 from Jonathan Young, eased the hosts home.

Burgess Hill beat second-place Pagham by 82 runs.

Hill hit 164 after winning the toss, but Pagham, who were at 12-4 at one stage, could only make 82 in reply.

In Division 4, Steyning kept up their 100 per cent record with a six-wicket victory at home to Rye.

Rye, batting first, made 193 in 50.2 overs with a top-score of 44 from Jackson Woodcock, before Steyning eased home with 194-4 in 39 overs.

Captain Dave Kennett hit an unbeaten 65 and Ben Shelford made 63.

With the ball, Steyning’s Ed Lamb took 4-20 And Issacs claimed 3-65.

Henfield (200), batted first after winning the toss, and, beat Hellingly (133) by 67 runs.

Opener Adam Scott hit 52 for the hosts and Adam Devlin claimed 3-28.

The battle at the bottom of the table saw Portslade record their first win by beating strugglers Lewis Prioy by 127 runs.

Overseas Sam Delaney made 60 as Portslade posted 209-5 where they declared, before they skittled Lewes for 82.

Steve Case claimed 4-14 and Alex Smith took 3-18 with the ball.

Wisborough Green made it back-to-back victories as they beat Keymer & Hassocks by eight wickets.

Hassocks made 121 in 35.4 overs as Wisborough’s Ben Thatcher ripped through the attack with 8-44, before the hosts comfortable knocked off the total, easing home with 123-2 in 26 overs.

Slinfold (150) sealed their fourth win of the season by beating Crawley (106) by 44 runs.

Crawley’s Harry Chaudhary recorded figures of 6-43.
