Sussex League cricket round-up

PRESTON Nomads won their top-of-the-table clash with Hastings at Fulking to give them their seventh outright win of the season to allow them to open up a gap of 18 points ahead of their nearest rivals.

Horsham won by five wickets against Brighton and Hove to move into third place.

Chichester were beaten at Worthing to give the home side their third victory of the campaign and lift them clear of the relegation zone and Bexhill enjoyed a welcome second win of the season to take them out of the bottom two.

Roffey were frustrated by wet surrounds and the umpires played a short game to 20/20 rules.

Hastings were well below strength at Preston Nomads but reached a challenging 235 for 7 declared as Toby Finzell made 117, which included a six and 15 fours, and shaered a 131 partnership with skipper John Morgan who made 61.

For Nomads Carl Simon took 4 for 86.

Nomads then cruised to 236 for 5 with more than four overs in hand as skipper Jeremy Green hit 65 not out, Hugh Richards made 51 and Luke Schildkamp 44, Joynal Ahmed was the pick of the Hastings bowlers, he took 3 for 57.

Horsham skipper Craig Gallagher hit 120 not out to lead his side to a five wicket win at home to Brighton and Hove.

Brighton were put in and held to 220 for 6 with Steve Crosby, as top scorer, run out for 98.

Tim Jarvis made 47 as Michael Munday took 5 for 61.

Gallagher’s century saw his side win with time to spare at 222 for 5, the most successful visiting bowler was Chris Atherton who took 2 for 63.

Bexhill put East Grinstead in at the Polegrove and sent them tumbling to 97 all out as off-spinner Jamie Bristow-Diamond took 6 for 20.

The home side then moved smoothly to 100 for 2 in 25.2 overs as Shaun Johnson made 34.

Worthing won an exciting home game against Chichester by 16 runs with just three balls to spare.

Batting first the home side made 183 all out with 68 from skipper Darryl Rebbetts and 55 from Michael Gould as Aussie leg-spinner Adam Zampa grabbed 6 for 57.

In reply, Chichester were bowled out for 167 with Chris Kirkham making 50 and Zampa 44.

The bowling hero for Worthing was teenager Mason Crane who took 5 for 44 whilst Luke Vinter grabbed 3 for 29.

At Roffey the home side won a 20/20 game with Eastbourne by 25 runs after posting 171 for 4 of which Josh Fleming hit 85 not out.

In reply Eastbourne reached 146 for 5 of which Mark Tomsett made 51.

Three Bridges have extended their lead to 56 points in Division 2 after a 51-run victory at home to St.James.

Second-placed Glynde held on for a draw at Cuckfield, but Ifield continued their race for the top with a home win against Goring.

Findon enjoyed a comfortable home win against bottom club Sidley and Haywards Heath had a welcome home win against Pulborough.

Tim Moses was undoubtedly the man of the match for Three Bridges in their home win against St.James’s.

He made 51 in a Bridges’ total of 150 all out as Bradley Hatchett took 5 for 63.

The young pace bowler then took 5 for 18 to reduce St.James’s to 99 all out with Michael Rose and Adrian Chappell each taking two wickets.

Chris Mole played his first game of the season for Cuckfield and cracked 109 as his team posted 290 for 6 declared against Glynde.

Brother Tom Mole made 50 not out and South African Sebrel Erwee hit 82.

Glynde held on at stumps with a score of 182 for 9 of which Joe Adams made 87, Nick Patterson taking 4 for 36.

Findon are enjoying their first season in Division 2 and, on Saturday, beat bottom club Sidley by eight wickets after bowling their visitors out for 135.

Graham Manser took 5 for 25 and James Iago 4 for 39.

Findon then cruised to 139 for 2 with 50 from Jack Metters and 49 not out from Barry Meany.

Ifield won by 39 runs at home to Goring after making 208 for 8 declared with 85 not out from Greg Barton. For Goring Alex Wyatt took 5 for 66.

In reply, the visitors were dismissed for 169 of which Alex Maynard made 61.

Haywards Heath survived a middle order collapse to win by 49 runs at home to Pulborough.

Declan Hoare hit 40 and Jethro Manzies made 48 in a century opening stand for the home side before the collapse and recovery from Callum Smith and Alex Ellis to take their team to 217 for 9 declared, Amit Suman took 4 for 64.

Pulborough were bowled out for 168 with an over to spare with 58 from Rohit Jagota, there were four wickets for Jethro Menzies and three for Ollie Graham.

Bognor Regis beat Littlehampton to remain at the head of Division 3 West though looked far from comfortable after being shot out for 109.

Four wickets apiece from Ryan Budd (4-4) and Dan Rive (4-26) put Littlehampton on course for their first win of the season but they capitulated to 66 all out. Sam West 5-28 and Jim Lee 3-28 doing the damage.

Middleton comfortably eased past Billingshurst’s score of 152 to win by 7 wickets and move above them into second spot. Danusha Miitipolarach made 47 for Billingshurst but Middleton’s Jamie Thompson scored 52 and Nickolai Smith 45 not out in their reply.

Steyning remain fourth but now Slinfold are just three points behind them after successfully defending a first innings score of 195. Matheesa Ranasinghe took 5-58 then blasted 60 off just 49 balls but Hayden McIntyre’s 5-48 saw Steyning bowled out for 153.

Pagham move up to seventh after beating Stirlands by 30 runs. After being bowled out for 176 Wayne Green’s 7-60 saw them take maximum points.

Newcomers Wisborough Green are still ninth but extended their cushion between themselves and last placed Littlehampton to 41 points after overcoming Arundel.

Wisborough captain Tim Monday made an unbeaten 112 in their 188-4 and while his opposite number Ally James hit 65, Green were victorious by 29 runs as Matt Traverna took 4-38 and Ben Thatcher 3-38.
