Crowhurst were all out for 202 after winning the toss and 84 from Joel Crook then led Portslade to victory, which delighted captain Paul Glover after his side had failed to chase down 154 against Steyning last week.

He said: “Last week we failed to chase down 150 against Steyning, so it was pleasing to put that right and come out with a good win.

“It was good to bounce back as well. Last time we lost a game, we ended up losing a couple on the bounce, so it’s good to get another win again so quickly.

“They got off to a good start but Nick Clark and I came on, created a bit of pressure and managed to take a few wickets.

“We were confident chasing 200 and Joel and David Wainwright batted superbly to put on 134 for the first wicket, which set things up nicely before Ian Wainwright saw us over the line with a run-a-ball 37 not out.

“It was a good team win and good to get 30 points.”

Dale Payne struck 75 and Joel Bruun hit 35 as Crowhurst made 202. Glover led the way with 6-74 from 21.3 overs to move on to 27 wickets for the season and Nick Clark returned 3-35 from an 11-over spell.

A 134-run stand between David Wainwright and Crook got Portslade off to an excellent start.

Wainwright was out for 48 and Crook fell for 84, after hitting 16 fours and one six from 96 balls. Ian Wainwright then guided Portslade home with 37 not out.

The win leaves Portslade third in the table and 15 points behind second-placed Mayfield, who they host this Saturday.

Glover said: “It’s a massive game for us. The aim at the start of the season was the top five but there are some really good teams around us.

“If we can be there or thereabouts come the end of the season, that would be great as we want to finish in the top five to make sure we’re in Division 3 next year.

“We don’t want to be playing any lower. We want to keep pushing forward and not rest on our laurels and go backwards, so the top five is the aim.

“I wouldn’t say we’re looking for promotion this season but it if happens, it will be great for the club.”
